I’ve now quit on this blog three times. Counting once before I even began. You might say I’m something of an authority on the subject. However, as a wise young man once said, “As long as I come back, it doesn’t count as leaving!”
Now I am back. And for most of you (the many, many people who don’t read my blog yet), it will seem just as though I never left.
You see, quitting and giving up are two entirely different things. Quitting is like failing to write a blog post during a two month span, when you intended to write twice a week. Whereas giving up would involve going out and finding a third job.
So, having quit my blogging and promoting for the third time, I’m back and it doesn’t count! In other news, I have officially finished the first draft of Vietnam by Motorbike!
Honestly, I wanted to be halfway done with my next book, With the Mighty Ones on the Bering Sea, by this point. But it is what it is!
The process of writing a guide-ish book has been interesting. That is to say terrifying. See, unlike a travel memoir, you can’t skip the boring parts. And sometimes funny little anecdotes may be irritating to someone who just wants to know where to spend the night in Ha Tinh.
So what I’ve ended up with is a rather bizarre conglomerate of guide book and a running tally, shall we say, of my of my various mistakes, mishaps, and ill-advised shenanigans. Basically, a short cut.
I now begin the editing process. A most thrilling process in which I second guess all my work and look forward to the day I turn 21 and can drink in bars.
I’m not crying, you’re crying… As I begin the editing process, let us remember that quitting is not giving up and it’s never to late to begin… AGAIN.
